In this video, I discuss how Ethereum's switch from proof of work to proof of stake ensures that it will never be able to be carbon negative, unlike Bitcoin.
One of the best use cases for Bitcoin mining is for methane mitigation, where methane that would already be released into the atmosphere is instead converted to milder carbon dioxide, thereby generating electricity that can be used to power Bitcoin mining rigs.
Bitcoin mining rigs are highly portable and can be used off-grid in this way in remote locations-- no power hook-ups required-- just a simple internet connection is needed.
Unlike data centers, Bitcoin mining rigs can be easily turned off and back on whenever necessary, making them the most flexible consumer of electricity on the planet.
Does Bitcoin mining "waste energy" when it runs on gas that would otherwise be vented or flared and not used for anything? Bitcoin mining is able to offset its own emissions through methane mitigation, without top-down regulation and without government subsidies.
