This week, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin was at the Blockchain Futurist Conference in Toronto as a keynote speaker. He talked about what to expect after the long awaited Merge event, focusing on their efforts to continue improving the network through scalability. I was actually able to attend the conference myself as a media partner and listen to his talk from the second row!
Well if you weren’t already aware, Ethereum was conducting a series of Test Net merges to proof of stake. These were meant as practice runs to get prepared for the Mainnet merge, or just The Merge. After a successful merge on the Goerli test net, their final planned test net merge, they’ve announced that we could expect a Mainnet merge between September 15 and 16. So if all goes smoothly, Ethereum should be running a proof of stake consensus system about one month from now!
Ethereum will be leaving behind the original proof of work mechanism, for a more efficient and eco friendly way of reaching consensus on the network.
