Good afternoon friends! Ethereum developer Vitalik Buterin published an article titled "Let's Make Ethereum Cyberpunk Again" in which he outlined his thoughts on the future of the cryptocurrency.
Buterin originally envisioned the Ethereum network as a public, decentralized hard drive with peer-to-peer messaging and file storage capabilities. Since 2017, however, financial services have become a priority, and the blockchain's development has deviated from its original trajectory.
According to Vitalik, for the Ethereum network to be called cyberpunk, it must be: Decentralized, open to all users; Resistant to censorship; Neutral; Verifiable.
In order for the Ethereum blockchain to meet these criteria, Buterin calls for the following technological innovations to be popularized: Layer 2 networks; A "zero-disclosure proof-of-stake" cryptographic protocol; A smart contract-based cryptocurrency wallet (account abstraction); Second-generation privacy solutions.
Vitalik wants Ethereum to become part of a broader technology ecosystem. To achieve this goal, the authors of projects on the ETH network need to have a cooperative mindset and create interoperable tools, rather than trying to build closed platforms and lock users into them.
