What is this Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum (ETH) is a decentralized blockchain-based platform that enables the development of smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps). It was created in 2015 by a young Russian-Canadian programmer, Vitalik Buterin, and has since become one of the most popular cryptocurrencies after Bitcoin.
Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum is not just a currency but also a platform that enables developers to build and deploy their own decentralized applications on top of it. Ethereum has its own programming language called Solidity, which is used to write smart contracts. These smart contracts are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement between buyer and seller being directly written into lines of code.
Ethereum has undergone several upgrades since its launch, the most recent being the London hard fork in August 2021, which aimed to make transaction fees more predictable and reduce the supply of new Ether coins.
